The Kiowa tribe is a group of Apaches that lived near the Panhandle of Texas, Colorado and New Mexico. In their language, the Kiowa call themselves Naishandina or "our people".

The Kiowas have a chief for peace and a chief for war. Although they were very warlike, they also had an organized, civil culture that came close to developing a written language.

The Kiowas are a progressive tribe, with many members getting good, modern educations while still learning the old ways. The Kiowa reservation is currently located in Oklahoma, numbering around 9,000 (from a low of about 100 in the 1920s).
